Brig and Stockalper Palace
Brig is the capital of the German speaking Valais and is dominated by the Stockalper Palace, former residence of one Kaspar Jodok von Stockalper, 17th-century merchant whose industrious zeal played a large part in the city's rise to power. The palace is more generously proportioned and more imposing than any other building in the canton. It was purchased from the impoverished Stockalper family in 1948 by a foundation and the municipality of Brig-Glis, and restored at great expense (open May-Oct Tues0Sun for hourly guided tours 09.30 and 10.30am 1.30 and 2.30 and 3.30 pm)
