Landwasser Viaduct
The Landwasser Viaduct is an elegant, single track six-arched curved limestone railway viaduct. It really is an engineering marvel, particularly in view of its age. Built between 1901 and 1902 for the Rhaetian Railways, it spans the Landwasser between Schmitten and Filisur, in the canton of Graubünden. It is the signature structure of the World Heritage listed Albula Railway (Bernina Express). It is 65m / 213ft high and 136m / 446ft long. One ramp curves right into a vertical rock wall which is the Landwasser Tunnel. Coming from Chur/Tiefencastel you want to sit on the right side of the train.

Take a train to Filisur from where you can walk to the view points. Most trains cross the viaduct before and after each full hour, and there are tourist trains (Bernina-Express and Glacier-Express) in between those times.

There are two official viewpoints from which you get an excellent view of the viaduct. The southern viewpoint is about 20 minutes' easy walk from the village. The northern viewpoint is a little further, and involves a steep climb, but offers a better view. It is also possible to walk to the base of the viaduct, where there is a small exhibition explaining its construction. All routes are clearly signposted. The very best photographs are to be had from the northern viewpoint in the late afternoon, when the sun illuminates the entire structure. Photographs taken from the base of the viaduct require a clear blue sky, because the stone does not stand out well against a cloudy sky.

Railway Museum (in Bergün)
Located in Bergün, right beside the Bernina Express line of the Rhaetian Railway, the new Albula Railway Museum is a must for all railway enthusiasts.
