Engelberg
Engelberg, located at the foot of Mt Titlis (3239 m / 10630 ft), and within easy reach of Lucerne and Zurich, is Central Switzerland’s largest summer and winter resort. With its combination of modern sports facilities and alpine location, Engelberg is a much visited destination.
Engelberg monastery
The Engelberg cloister, a Benedictine monastery, was founded in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 18th century. The monastery and cheese dairy (where cheese is still made) are open to visitors.
Mt. Titlis
Mt. Titlis is a well-known skiing area but very popular during all seasons. The Rotair cable car, which rotates as it travels, runs over the Titlis glacier. Walk across the Cliff Walk (500 m drop) and expect a thrill when you walk across this spectacular hanging bridge or walk through the impressive ice cave under the glacier’s surface. Scenes from many Bollywood films are shot at Engelberg, and the area is consequently very popular with Indian tourists.
Ski Jumping
In Engelberg, a ski jump event regularly takes place from the Titlis ski jumping venue. It is the largest natural ski jump in the world and the biggest ski jumping facility in Switzerland.
